Submit © 2021 ?> Reimagining high school. That’s not what we set out to do when we originated the career academy model back in 1969 as a solution to the dropout crisis. Our experiment became a game changer. The model is now used in thousands of high schools across the country. ?> We changed the education model. It’s not like rethinking education stops. We must continue to evolve. Our young people’s futures depend on us. In the past, we provided direct services to career academy students. Now, to scale the model in Philadelphia, we work with adults to use the model with fidelity as a way to support school transformation. ?> It's Working! For most of our history, students in “pocket” career academies (i.e. 20% of the school population) had graduation rates at 85 – 90%. Because of results like this and other research findings, cities like Nashville Tennessee and Rockford Illinois began to use the model throughout the entire school population (aka All Academy High Schools) to inspire school transformation. ?> Growing the Network. Roxborough and Abraham Lincoln High Schools are Philadelphia’s leaders in this effort. Closely behind are nine other local public and charter schools that are interested in using the model to transform themselves. Ultimately, our goal is to have 12,000 Philadelphia high school students in schools that use the career academy model with fidelity. ?> Get involved. We Need You.
